Golf in Gran Canaria
Gran Canaria’s golf courses are like a dream for golfers. The island’s six golf courses each have their own unique characteristics, and this makes golf on Gran Canaria an absolutely amazing experience. Where else can you within a short distance find golf courses next to a desert, next to the Atlantic Ocean, up in the mountains and even in the middle of a city. You won’t regret a golf trip to Gran Canaria – it will be a great experience.
Real Club de Golf de Las Palmas
Founded in 1891, this is nothing less than Spain’s oldest golf club. The golf course is located up in the mountains about 20 km. from Las Palmas. East of the golf course the volcanic crater Caldera de Bandama contributes to a wonderful natural experience.
Real Club de Golf de Las Palmas is an 18 hole par 71 course. Book well in advance, and note that weekends are reserved for club members.
Salobre Golf Resort
Salobre Golf Resort is two 18-hole golf courses located in the mountains behind Maspalomas and Arguineguin. In connection with the golf courses, you will also find the 5-star Salobre Hotel Resort & Serenity. Both courses can be recommended, and the view alone is worth it all (especially on the new course).
- Salobre Sur is the original course, also called the Old Course. It opened in 1999, and has over the years laid the ground for several major tournaments.
- Salobre Norte, also called the New Course, opened in 2008. It is more hilly and is rated as the most challenging of the two golf courses.
Maspalomas Golf
How many golf courses are located right next to a desert? Maspalomas Golf is, and the beautiful golf course is also very close to Gran Canaria’s largest holiday towns, Playa del Inglés and Maspalomas.
Maspalomas Golf has previously hosted international tournaments with the participation of e.g. Spanish Ballesteros. A unique golf course close to the desert and with tropical plant life on the course.
Anfi Tauro Golf
Anfi Tauro Golf is located in the beautiful Tauro Valley not far from the resorts of Puerto Rico and Playa del Cura. The construction of Anfi Tauro Golf lasted more than 10 years, but the result was a wonderful golf course with rocks, lakes, waterfalls and a unique nature.
In addition to the 18 hole par 72 course, Anfi Tauro Golf also offers a challenging par 3 course of 9 holes.
Lopesan Meloneras Golf
The special thing about Meloneras Golf is that the golf course is right next to the Atlantic Ocean. This is especially noticeable on hole 5 and hole 12, where the ball comes close to the water – sometimes too close.
As the name suggests, the golf course belongs to the Lopesan hotel chain, which has three luxury hotels in the exclusive resort town of Meloneras. Perfect for the luxury golf trip.
Las Palmeras Golf
In 2006, Las Palmeras Golf opened as the first urban course in the Canary Islands, and one of the first urban courses in all of Spain. The course is an 18 hole par 3 course with lengths of up to 120 metres. The last 9 holes are the most challenging, especially hole 15, where the green is on an island!
In addition to the par 3 course, there is also a 250-meter-long driving range on two floors. From the golf course, it is only 500 meters to the popular beach Las Canteras, and approx. 1.1 km to Plaza de España.
El Cortijo Club de Campo
On the east coast of Gran Canaria, not far from the town of Telde, is the golf course El Cortijo Club de Campo. It opened in 1999 and in 2002 Spanish golf star Sergio Garcia won the Canarias Open de España tournament on this course. Unfortunately, El Cortijo is now closed and it is unknown if it will reopen.
